Phineas and Ferb

TV Series (4 Seasons), 2007-2015, TV-G; Movies, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, 2011, TV-G, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, 2020, TV-G

Premise - There's 104 days of summer vacation (or like 7 years), and step-brothers Phineas and Ferb are going to carpe diem their way through it! Each day is gonna be a great day, as Phineas and Ferb make a new wild invention for their friends to enjoy every single day, from roller coasters to spaceships to giant treehouses. Meanwhile, their older sister Candace wants to bust them to their mom, and their pet platypus, Perry, is living a double-life as a secret agent.

Review - Hey Ferb, I know what I'm going to do today! Write about my favorite animated series of all time!

This is one of my favorite television series period. I've had a powerful love for this series since its premiere back when I was in elementary school, and it is still a show I regularly watch today, considering I just re-watched the entire series and partook in the new Disney Plus original movie. Because the show came into my life at just the right pubescent moment, I think it legitimately rewired my brain and changed my sense of humor. This show became my sense of humor, quite simply. I can't ever be mad at the "lolrandom" humor phase of the late 2000's because it brought us gems like this, where a man randomly shouts, "MY WATERMELON!" every time there's an apocalyptic attack. The show has never ceased to impress me with its clever, all-ages comedy. While this is a "children's" show, the humor is not at all simple. It is, in many ways, a show written for adults, but age-appropriate for children, rather than the other way around. The random little sociopolitical inserts are what make me laugh the most. It's a smart show, and it is the definition of irony. This is a show that changes your philosophy on life, too. Never has there ever been a show so optimistic, happy-go-lucky, feel-good, while also powerfully creative.

The show is also known for using its repetitive formula. Every day follows the same pattern, and each character has its key catchphrase, so every day is theme and repetition. However, each day, there is just a slight enough variance in the plot to catch you off guard. The show leans into its repetitiveness as a humor tactic, meaning the show gets funnier and funnier the more you watch it, rather than tired and predictable. The show also makes regular callbacks to its own jokes and scenarios. I love it because its hows how much the writers love their own show, because they know the hundreds of episodes thoroughly enough to make references to them.

No shame, I have so much Phineas and Ferb merchandise and will let this be a defining part of my personality. I've got plenty of Perry the Platypus merch specifically, as a heroic, egg-laying mammalian icon.

What to watch for - Don't forget that this is a MUSICAL SERIES!! And so many of the songs are just as iconic as the show. "Gitchee Gitchee Goo" is unforgettable and the lyrics are my facebook profile description.

If you liked this series, I'd recommend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs!
