Big Hero 6

Movie, 2014, PG

Premise - A young college student creates a robot that operates as one's personal healthcare companion. When he tragically dies in a fire, his younger brother creates a bond with the robot that shows him to always help, and never harm, others. The robot, Baymax, and 14-year-old Hiro solve the mystery of the fire, learning to break the cycle of revenge and use technology for the good of mankind.

Review - This movie is incredibly sad, yet also incredibly happy, yet still incredibly sad. It is one hell of an emotional roller coaster considering it's a kid's movie. The film is about loss, grief, and revenge, and specifically how grief can hinder someone from living their life the way they should. Loss should instead give you all the more reason to fight through life, and fight to save the lives of others.

Even though Baymax is a robot, he in many ways is the soul of the late Tadashi, still alive and forever preserved in the technology that he created. Baymax carries on the legacy that Tadashi wanted, which is to help people. Many robot movies choose to showcase the dangers of technology developing thoughts and feelings (and rightfully so, because artificial intelligence is terrifying...). But this movie takes a far more optimistic approach, focusing on the inherent will to help and save others, so fundamental that it can even be reduced to programming. And Baymax is a wonderful piece of technology. His non-threatening, huggable design just hits you in all the feels.

As a personal favorite, I believe this to be my favorite Disney animated film in the last several years. It is likely one that I will never tire of watching. (97/100)

Quote - "Ba da la la la da la da la"

What to watch for - The animation in this film is absolutely STUNNING. And the music is worth paying attention to as well.

If you liked this movie, I'd recommend Monsters Inc!
